Chipotle Reopens Restaurants

Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. said it would reopen 43 restaurants it had closed in two states following an E. coli outbreak, as health authorities continued trying to determine the exact source of the illness.

The fast-food chain on Tuesday said it has replaced all ingredients in the restaurants it had voluntarily closed in Portland, Ore., and Seattle on Oct. 31, and that health officials have found “no ongoing risk” of further illness.

A total of 42 people reported becoming sick in the E. coli outbreak, which authorities linked to 11 Chipotle restaurants in the two cities. The company closed all 43 outlets in the two cities as a precaution. Authorities have said fresh produce was the likely culprit, but an initial round of test results on samples taken from several Chipotle restaurants in the area didn’t find E. coli bacteria, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
