John Kiess, RS is Named as the Kitsap Public Health District's Environmental Health Director


Kitsap Public Health’s vision and mission are to make Kitsap County a safe and health place to live, learn, work, and play by preventing disease and protecting and promoting the health of all persons in Kitsap County. The Health District employs a staff of a little over 100 persons distributed among its Environmental Health, Community Health, and Administrative Services divisions.

Prior to becoming the Environmental Health Director in July of 2016, John was the Health District’s Drinking Water and Onsite Sewage Program Manager from 2006 to 2015. He served as assistant director of Environmental Health from 2015 to 2016. John joined Kitsap Public Health in 1999 as a solid and hazardous waste environmental health specialist. He also worked as a specialist in in the water quality program. He has received several awards and recognition for his work at the Health District.

John has a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science from Washington State University. He lives in Bremerton with his wife Sarah. John enjoys cycling, hiking, and travelling to West Africa when he is not spending time working.
